How to I get my old TV to work with cable?

I downgraded from a nice new TV to a super oldie to make more space in my room, and i plugged in the little guy and i only recieve about 30 channels. I've read why my TV does this, but couldnt find a solution.

I know a cable box will work but thats not an option for meHow to I get my old TV to work with cable?

Without a cable box you are out of luck. If you have Comcast they offer 2 rent free DTA's for each household. Past 2 they charge $4.99 a month.
You might get more channels by ensuring that you've optioned your TV's tuner for CABLE or CATV rather than AIR or ANTENNA. That's done from its menu, or on older sets, with a switch on the set itself.

However, any success might be temporary. If you're in the U.S., all cable companies are migrating their cable-only channels to digital. You'll eventually be left with just your local broadcast stations on analog cable; far fewer than the 30 you're receiving now.

If your cable company is Comcast and you presently are paying for Expanded Basic channels, you can get their digital converter for free. See the URL below (click ';Digital Transport Adapter'; in the upper right corner). Other U.S. cable companies may offer a similar solution.
If your cable system provides more than 30 analog channels you should be able to receive them with your TV set.

Make sure that your TV set is set to the cable setting. This is an internal (electronic) setting within the TV set. TV on Cable, for channels 14 and up, uses a different frequency than regular TV. Broadcast and cable freqs are close on some of the upper cable channels that the may come in on channel 15 - 45 on the TV set.

The cable setup is in the channel setup menu, put it on the cable or CATV setting, if given a choice you probably want std cable and NOT HRC or IRC.

If your ';oldie'; set only goes up to cable channel 36 then you will need an analog converter box. This is NOT!! the cable company's digital converter that you have to get from the cable company but an analog converter available at Flea Markets or such places for next to nothing. They work only with analog cable and do NOT need to be authorized by a cable system.

A VCR will do the same thing. Plug the cable into the antenna input of the VCR and take the antenna output to the TV set. Set the VCR to the cable setting and change channels with the VCR.
Well if you plugged in the white cable cord you should get 2-91 with some channels cut out in between.
